COLUMBUS, Ohio ? Jaron Long and Trace Dempsey, members of the Ohio State baseball team and the Bourne Braves of the Cape Cod Collegiate Baseball League, will play for the West team in the Cape Cod All-Star Game Saturday in Yarmouth, Mass. The game will take place at Red Wilson Field at 4:30 p.m. ET and will be broadcast nationally on Fox College Sports.
Long leads the league in ERA and wins, going 5-0 with a 0.32 ERA in five starts. The right-hander has struck out 23 to just four walks while allowing one earned run in 28.0 innings pitched.
?To be able to start the game is a big honor,? Long said after being selected. ?There are a lot of good pitchers in the league and to be selected just makes me really happy and I?m very excited for the opportunity.?
Dempsey has gone 1-1 with a 1.50 ERA and four saves in 12.0 innings pitched. The Huntington, W. Va., native has struck out 16 while surrendering four free passes and is tied for fourth in the league in saves.

COLUMBUS, Ohio – Ohio State men’s golf head coach Donnie Darr announced the signing of Frederik Hammer to a National Letter of Intent. Hammer is set to join the Buckeyes for the 2013-14 season.
“I’m very excited to have Frederik join our team this fall,” Darr said. “He brings a wealth of international experience to our program. During his visit, he loved Columbus and fit in great with the team. I am really looking forward to watching him compete over the next four years, as he has the potential to be an elite player.”
Hammer joins the squad from Copenhagen, Denmark, bringing international experience to Ohio State. He was a member of the 2009 Danish team that won the European Boys Team Championship title and placed tied for third individually at the tournament in 2010 and 2011.
Most recently, Hammer finished in the tied for 5th at the 2012 Danish International Amateur Championship and tied for 11th at the 2012 Danish Men’s Championship.
With the addition of Hammer, four will join the Buckeyes in 2013-14. Clark Engle, Nicholas Jan and Josh Wick signed NLIs in November of 2012.

COLUMBUS, Ohio – The Maxwell Football Club, presenters of the prestigious Maxwell Award and the Bednarik Award, announced its initial 2013 watch lists for each award today and five Ohio State Buckeyes are under consideration:
Junior quarterback Braxton Miller (Maxwell Award watch list);
Senior running back Carlos Hyde (Maxwell Award);
Senior safety C.J. Barnett (Bednarik Award watch list);
Junior cornerback Bradley Roby (Bednarik Award); and
Junior linebacker Ryan Shazier (Bednarik Award).
The Maxwell Award, named in honor of Robert W. “Tiny” Maxwell, has been given to America’s College Player of the Year since 1937. The Bednarik Award has been presented to the College Defensive Player of the Year since 1995.
Semifinalists for the Maxwell and Bednarik Awards will be announced Oct. 29, while the three finalists for each award will be unveiled Nov. 18. The winners of the 2013 Maxwell and Bednarik Awards will be announced as part of the Home Depot ESPNU College Football Awards Show held on Dec. 5. The formal presentations of these awards will be made at the Maxwell Football Club Awards Gala hosted by Harrah’s Entertainment Atlantic City on March 7, 2014.
The watch list candidates have been chosen by the Maxwell Football Club’s selection committee, which analyzes both past performance and future potential.
PRINCETON, N.J. – National men’s college basketball powers Notre Dame and Ohio State highlight the field of the second annual Gotham Classic.
Joining the Fighting Irish and Buckeyes in the 2013 Gotham Classic are Bryant, Delaware, and North Dakota State.
Notre Dame and Ohio State will tip-off against each other for only the 13th time in history when they meet on Saturday, December 21 at Madison Square Garden in New York City. Ohio State holds a 7-5 series advantage with the two having last met in December of 2008. Notre Dame and Ohio State have combined for 58 NCAA Tournament appearances. ESPN2 will televise the Showcase Game.
