OHIO STATE OF LATE
Ohio State bounced back from a 4-3 loss in 13 innings in the opener at Purdue to take the series with a 2-0 Saturday win and an 11-2 victory in the rubber game Sunday.

Ryan Riga pitched 7.2 scoreless innings, striking out nine to pick up the win Saturday while Josh Dezse went 4-for-9 with two doubles, three walks, four RBI and three runs scored in the series.

Ohio State Takes Rubber Game Against Murray State, 7-3

COLUMBUS, Ohio – The Ohio State baseball team picked up a 7-3 win over Murray State to win the series Sunday afternoon at Nick Swisher Field at Bill Davis Stadium. With the win, the Buckeyes improve to 23-18 on the year while the Thoroughbreds fall to 17-20.

Ohio State took the lead off Murray State starter Sheldon Baxter in the bottom of the first. Nick Sergakis reached on a leadoff walk before Ronnie Dawson hit what appeared to be a two-run home run to center. However, Dawson overran Sergakis while rounding first, resulting in an RBI single by Dawson with Sergakis scoring from first for the 1-0 Buckeye lead.

The Buckeyes added another in the bottom of the second. With two down, Jacob Bosiokovic walked before a single by Connor Sabanosh put runners on first and second before Sergakis lined a single to right to plate Bosiokovic to make it a 2-0 game.

Farmer earned the win to improve to 6-4 on the year while Baxter suffered the loss, falling to 1-4. Sergakis and Kuhn each went 3-for-4 while Dawson finished the day 2-for-5.

The Buckeyes travel to West Lafayette for a three-game series at Purdue next weekend.

Ohio State Travels to West Virginia Tuesday, Hosts Ball State Wednesday

OHIO STATE OF LATE
Ohio State bounced back from a 5-4 series-opening defeat to top Penn State, 7-0 and 12-6, in the final two games to win the series last weekend in Columbus.

The Buckeyes hit .337 as a team in the series and were paced by Nick Sergakis, who went 8-for-13 with a double, a home run, five RBI and five runs scored. Josh Dezse went 5-for-11 with a double, three home runs, seven RBI and six runs scored in the three-game set while Greg Greve tossed a complete-game shutout in the Saturday contest.

BUCKEYES IN THE BIG TEN
Offensively, Ohio State ranks near the top of the Big Ten in runs scored (3rd, 187), doubles (2nd, 59), triples (2nd, 13) and home runs (t-2nd, 14). On the mound, the Buckeyes rank in ERA (4th, 3.42), strikeouts (4th, 213) and saves (t-4th, 8).

Individually, multiple Buckeyes rank in the Top 10 in Big Ten offensive categories. Ronnie Dawson sits sixth with a .355 average while Troy Kuhn is tied for third with four home runs, tied for eighth with 23 RBI, tied for second with 29 runs scored, tied for eighth with nine doubles and tied fifth after getting hit nine times.

Tanner Tully ranks fifth with a 2.15 ERA while Zach Farmer is tied for second with five wins and Trace Dempsey is tied for sixth with four saves.

Ohio State Welcomes Eastern Michigan, Dayton to Columbus for Midweek Contests

Ohio State was swept in three one-run contests over the weekend at Nebraska. The Buckeyes dropped the opener, 3-2, before suffering a 4-3 walk-off defeat in the middle game and a 2-1 loss, also on a walk-off, in the finale.

Ohio State starting pitchers allowed two earned runs over 22.0 innings pitched on the weekend while Nick Sergakis stood out offensively, going 4-for-10 with a run scored.

OSU VS. NEBRASKA NOTES
– Jacob Bosiokovic picked up his 10th multi-hit game of the season Sunday.
– The Ohio State starters in the series (Greg Greve, Tanner Tully and Jake Post) tossed 22.0 innings, allowing two earned runs (a 0.82 ERA) on 15 hits while striking out 10.
– Ryan Leffel extended his hitting streak to six games Saturday.
– Troy Montgomery picked up his fourth multi-hit game of the season while Nick Sergakis tallied his third Saturday.
– Tully pitched a career-high 7.1 innings, striking out a career-best six while allowing one run on three hits in the middle game.
– Post pitched very well but suffered the tough-luck loss to drop to 3-3 on the season after tossing a career-high 8.2 innings, allowing two runs, one earned, on seven hits Sunday.
– The 1:45 game time Sunday marked the Buckeyes’ fastest game of the season and the quickest since a 1:43 game in a 1-0 defeat at Minnesota April 7 of last season.

Ryan Leffel went 4-for-7 with a run scored in the series while Josh Dezse went 4-for-10 with a double and four RBI.
