Jody Victor : Buckeye Named to 2007 Thorpe Award Watch List

Jody Victor: Malcolm Jenkins, a junior defensive back on the Ohio State football team, has been named to the 2007 Jim Thorpe Award Watch List. The list, determined by compiling preseason All-American teams from various football publications, was announced July 25 by the Jim Thorpe Association. The award honors the top defensive back in the nation.

Jenkins, from Piscataway, NJ, enters his third season as a starter for the Buckeyes. He was voted first team All-Big Ten by both the coaches and media in 2006. A starter in all 13 games last season, Jenkins ranked second for Ohio State with four interceptions and 40 solo tackles (55 total). He had 4.5 tackles for loss and returned an interception 61 yards for a game-sealing touchdown in the home win over Penn State last season.

Jenkins, who also was a member of the Ohio State track and field team in the spring, has the opportunity to become the Buckeyes' first Thorpe Award recipient since Antoine Winfield (1995-98) claimed the honor in 1998.

Go Bucks!
