Jody Victor : Just minutes after falling to Purdue in the Big Ten Championship game, the Ohio State men's basketball team received the No. 8 seed in the Midwest Region of the 2009 NCAA Tournament and will begin play against ninth-seeded Siena Friday, March 20, at UD Arena in Dayton, Ohio.
Ohio State is making its 21st trip to the NCAA Tournament and third in the last four years. The Buckeyes are 37-19 all-time in the big dance, including a trip to the 2007 Final Four in their most recent outing. They are 1-2 in two previous appearances as a No. 8 seed and 3-2 when playing in the Midwest Region.
The winner of the game advances to the second round Sunday against either the No 1 overall seed Louisville or the winner of the play-in game between Alabama State and Morehead State.
