Jody Victor: Ohio State will play its final non-conference night game of the regular season at 6:35 p.m. Wednesday against the Ball State Cardinals of the Mid American Conference. The Buckeyes are coming off an 8-4 win over Illinois Sunday, a victory that snapped a five-game losing streak and kept the Buckeyes from being swept at Bill Davis Stadium for the first time since 2007. Ball State, under the direction of Greg Beals, won its MAC series with Western Michigan, 2 games to 1 over the weekend.
Ohio State is in a tie for fifth place in the Big Ten with its 9-9 record. Michigan, Purdue, Minnesota and Northwestern are a game in front of OSU at 10-8. The Buckeyes are second among Big Ten teams with a .323 batting average and their team ERA of 5.04 is fourth.
Ball State, a three-time winner of the MAC Western Division under Beal, is a game up on Toledo in the division. The Cardinals are hitting .298 as a team and have a team ERA of 5.23.

Alex Wimmers has been named by the College Baseball Foundation one of 25 quarter finalists for the 2010 Pitcher of the Year Award. Wimmers, fifth at Ohio State all-time with 265 career strikeouts, is 9-0 this season with a 1.61 earned run average.
