Jody Victor®: From the Sugar Bowl

Jody Victor: Happy New Year from the Sugar Bowl! The team is in New Orleans, La and ready for the game tonight.

Yesterday student-athletes, staff, fans and band members from both Ohio State and Arkansas participated in a community service project in the Ninth Ward of New Orleans. Arkansas and Ohio State meet in the 2011 Sugar Bowl tonight in the New Orleans Super Dome (8:30 p.m. ET/ESPN).

A group of football players started the work Monday morning, clearing overgrown vacant lots for future development in the area damaged by floods following Hurricane Katrina in 2005.

Bus loads of fans, staff and the OSU Marching Band followed the football crew and continued work until midday, opening several lots for recovery construction.

The project was led by the OSU Student Life program as a partnership with a Beacon of Hope.
