Jody Victor: Ohio state (2-0) visits Washington (2-0) for a 12:30 p.m. PDT (3:30 p.m. EDT) game Saturday at Husky Stadium (72,000) in Seatle. The game will be televised on ESPN.
The Buckeyes are coming off back-to-back home wins to open the season and are making their first regular-season West Coast road trip since playing at UCLA in 2001. The Huskies won at Syracuse, 42-12, in their season opener and knocked off No. 22 Boise State last week, 24-10, to snap the Broncos' 14-game winning streak, which had been the nation's longest.
The Buckeyes held their first two opponents to a combined eight points (YSU 6, Akron 2), marking the lowest total point total allowed through two games since 1996. That season, Ohio State beat Rice 70-7 and Pitt 72-0 in the first two games of the season.
Ohio State is 7-3 all-time against Washington in a series that began in 1957. The Buckeyes are 2-3 in games played at Husky Stadium. The last meeting was a 28-9 Buckeye win in Columbus in 2003.
Senior offensive tackle Kirk Barton, senior fullback Dionte Johnson and junior linebacker James Laurinaitis were elected 2007 captains by their teammates. Because of close voting on the defense, a second defensive captain will be named for each game. Game captains this far: Youngstown State – Larry Grant; Akron – Marcus Freeman.
