Go Lady Buckeyes!

On Tuesday, March 22nd the OSU Lady Buckeyes played Maryland on their home court in the second round of the NCAA tournament. The Buckeyes were victorious and advanced to the round of 16 for the first time since 1993.

Ahead 58-53, the Buckeyes used a 9-3 spurt to go up 67-56 with just over 3 minutes left.

Maryland made only four baskets in the final 9:42, two of them in the final 40 seconds.

The Terrapins were 13-3 at the ComcastCenter, but playing at home and in front of a partisan crowd wasn't enough to overcome OhioState's speed and tenacious defense.

Another OSU Lady Buckeye Announcement…

OhioState women's basketball sophomore center Jessica Davenport has been named an Associated Press First Team All-American announced Wednesday. The voting was done by 45 members of the national media panel, who also vote in the weekly AP poll. Davenport is leading the Buckeyes this season with 19.3 points per game and 9.1 rebounds per game.

Davenport becomes OhioState's second Associated Press All-American, but the first to be named first-team. Former Buckeye Katie Smith earned second-team honors in 1996.

Davenport was dubbed the 2005 Big Ten Player of the Year and was the only unanimous first-team All-Big Ten selection by both the coaches and media. She is one of four finalists for the Naismith Trophy and also is a finalist for the John R. Wooden Award and the Kodak/WBCA All-America team.

Davenport became the third Buckeye sophomore to score 1,000 points, reaching the milestone against Minnesota in the semifinals of the Big Ten tournament. She is second in the OhioState record book with 114 career blocks and also recorded the program's first triple-double against MichiganState Feb. 20.
