COLUMBUS, Ohio ? The Ohio State baseball team dropped an 8-1 decision to No. 21 Indiana on Senior Day Saturday afternoon at Nick Swisher Field at Bill Davis Stadium. The Buckeyes earn the No. 2 seed in the Big Ten Tournament after posting a 34-21 overall record in the regular season, 15-9 in conference play, while the Hoosiers improve to 40-13 overall and win the Big Ten regular season with a 17-7 record.
?I thought we had a good mentality and attitude pregame but we just did not play championship baseball today,? Ohio State head coach Greg Beals said. ?We did not pitch well enough, hit well enough or handle certain situations well enough. With that said, we still have a great opportunity and we need to redirect our energy toward next week in Minneapolis.?
The Hoosiers were able to get on the board against Ohio State starter Jaron Long in the top of the first. With two down, back-to-back singles by Sam Travis and Scott Donley put runners on first and second and Michael Basil followed with a two-run double to left-center to give Indiana the early 2-0 lead.
The Buckeyes open the Big Ten Tournament at 3:35 p.m. CT Thursday at Target Field against a team to be determined.
